They may be adorable now but when they grow up these Christmas pups are going to be massive

A litter of adorable puppies named after Santa’s reindeer survived against the odds after being found in a city garden.

They ended up at Merseyside Dogs Home in Halewood after a member of the public got in touch to say a dog was having puppies on Withington Road in Speke. Another call a few minutes later said the new canine mum had left, leaving two newborn pups. But when help arrived, she returned carrying two more puppies – and on the way to the dogs home gave birth to another two.

Merseyside Dogs Home manager Paul Dunne said the tiny pups would grow up to be large dogs and their father is thought to be a Mastiff. He said: “No one at the home expected such young puppies to survive but against all odds their mother pulled them through. “They were tiny and born outside, when normally the mother has got somewhere to nest. For some reason she was going between two different locations.

“For her to leave them so young and for them to still be alive when she came back is all the more remarkable.“It is unfortunate that these puppies are ready for Christmas - as a dog is for life not just for Christmas”.
