Stop the puppy traders!
On the 4th September MP’s debated the issues around puppy breeding and trade but no real action has been taken. We want puppies to have their mums and are calling on MPs to focus on developing legislation which tackles the root causes of the problem - by cutting off the illegal trade and ensuring increased accountability and monitoring of anyone breeding puppies.

Puppy trafficking causes long term damage leading to families who want to give love and care to a puppy find themselves in a position that they can’t care, resulting in the heartbreak when death of many adult dogs.
The Government debate in parliament lasted nearly three hours with Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, George Eustice, responded on behalf of the Government stating:
1 - From December this year, no puppy or dog can be lawfully transported to this country under the pet passport scheme unless it is at least 15 weeks old.
2 - From last year a voluntary code of internet organisations have removed 100,000 unsavoury adverts from the internet but these are related to status dogs. New guidelines state that contact details should be advertised alongside all pet advertisements.
3 - Local Authorities are to be provided with clarity through new guidance so that they can interpret the breeding of dogs legislation more rigorously.
But more needs to be done now, about puppies produced at large-scale commercial breeding establishments, known as puppy farms. That are irresponsibly-bred, separated from their mothers too early and often transported long distances, and as a result often suffer serious life-threatening problems including impaired immune systems, poor socialisation, infectious diseases and shorter life spans.
